Time For Climate Justice
The UN Conference to discuss climate change in the world will be held in December 2009. Such authorities as Kofi Annan (2001 Nobel Peace Prize Winner and currently the seventh Secretary-General of the United Nations), Rajendra Pachauri (Nobel Peace Prize Winner and chairman of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change - IPCC), Desmond Tutu (South African Anglican bishop and 1983 Nobel Peace Prize Winner), among others will be present at this important and decisive event.
Aiming to make the people join the cause, the project "TCK TCK TCK - Time for Climate Justice" focused on creating an active network that encourages joint and impactive actions until December, when the Event will take place in Copenhagen, was launched.
Those interested in helping the cause can download the official campaign song performed by international celebrities such as actresses Marion Cotillard and Milla Jovovich as well as the economist and the 2006 winner of the Nobel Peace Prize, Mohammad Yunus.

Pressão por um mundo melhor
Será realizada em dezembro de 2009 a Conferência das Nações que debaterá sobre as alterações climáticas no mundo. Autoridades como Kofi Annan (Nobel da Paz em 2001 e hoje sétimo Secretário-Geral das Nações Unidas), Rajendra Pachauri (Nobel da Paz e presidente do Painel Intergovernamental para as Alterações Climáticas - IPCC), Desmond Tutu (Bispo anglicano sul-africano e Nobel da Paz em 1983), entre outros estarão presentes neste importante e decisivo evento.
Com o objetivo de unir a população à causa, foi lançado o projeto “Tck Tck Tck - Time For Climate Justice”, cujo foco é criar uma rede ativa que estimule ações impactantes e concatenadas até dezembro, quando acontecerá o evento, em Copenhagen.
Os interessados podem colaborar fazendo o download da música oficial da campanha, interpretada por personalidades internacionais, como as atrizes Marion Cotillard e Milla Jovovich, assim como economista e vencedor do prêmio Nobel da Paz de 2006, Mohammad Yunus.

Plantemos para o Planeta
Visando aumentar o poder de pressão dos cidadãos sobre grandes empresas e políticos e tendo como intuito fazer com que esses abracem o desafio da mudança climática, o Programa das Nações Unidas para o Meio Ambiente (PNUMA) lançou a iniciativa mundial para o plantio de árvores Plantemos para o Planeta: Campanha 7 Bilhões de Árvores.
Pessoas, comunidades, empresas e indústrias, organizações de sociedade civil e governos são encorajados a fazer um compromisso de participação on-line, a fim de plantar, ao menos, 7 bilhões de árvores em todo o mundo (1 árvore para cada pessoa do planeta) até Dezembro de 2009 (mês da Conferência de Copenhagen sobre mudanças climáticas).

Plant for the Planet
The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) has launched a major worldwide tree planting campaign. Under the Plant for the Planet: Billion Tree Campaign, people, communities, business and industry, civil society organizations and governments are encouraged to enter tree planting pledges online.
In a call to further individual and collective action, UNEP has set a goal of planting 7 billion trees by the end of 2009. The campaign strongly encourages the planting of indigenous trees and trees that are appropriate to the local environment.

Magrelas, gratuitas e eficientes
Para atravessar a pé de um extremo ao outro do campus do Plano Piloto na Universidade de Brasília (UnB) são necessários de trinta a quarenta minutos.
Com isto em mente, um grupo de estudantes e amigos decidiu criar o projeto Bicicleta Livre, que desde a última segunda (22) disponibiliza bicicletas para locomoção gratuita dentro do campus. A ideia é mostrar que as magrelas podem servir como um meio de transporte para as ruas da capital federal.
Ao todo, o Bicicleta Livre recebeu sessenta veículos bastante antigos ou mal cuidados de tamanho adulto. Comprar bikes novas não passa pela cabeça da equipe, como explica Janayde Gonçalves, jornalista e voluntária no projeto. “Não queremos porque a proposta é ecológica, mostrar que é possível reciclar e reutilizar. Eu, quando cheguei, não sabia nada de mecânica. Hoje consigo consertar uma bicicleta. Basta ter disposição”, avalia. Saiba mais.

Impermeable cities
The large amount of concrete and asphalt you see in big cities has become a serious problem for inhabitants and environment. With so much impermeable ground, the rainwater cannot penetrate the soil, supply groundwater, and, on top of that, causes floods and inundations. One way to solve this problem is to use permeable concrete.
This product has small pockets of air which, besides reducing the total quantity of raw material, allows the water to reach the ground. The environmental benefits go beyond the supply of groundwater and flood prevention. This system acts as a filter (the same way the earth does during the natural process) and retains impurities and toxic substances from water on the surface.

Campanha pela redução do uso de sacolas plásticas
O Ministério do Meio Ambiente (MMA), em parceria com entidades privadas, lançou nesta terça-feira, 23 de junho, a campanha nacional “Saco é um saco” com objetivo de incentivar os consumidores a reduzir o uso de sacolas plásticas. A iniciativa tem o objetivo de enfrentar o impacto ambiental do consumo exagerado de sacolas plásticas, conscientizando e incentivando os consumidores a usarem alternativas para o transporte das compras e acondicionamento de lixo domiciliar.
Segundo a Associação Brasileira de Supermercados (ABRAS), o Brasil consome 12 bilhões de sacolas plásticas por ano. As sacolas descartadas incorretamente entopem bueiros e poluem rios, lagos e mares. Dados do Programa das Nações Unidas para o Meio Ambiente (PNUMA) indicam que sacolas plásticas estão chegando a locais distantes, considerados paraísos ecológicos e turísticos.

Cidades impermeáveis
A grande quantidade de concreto e asfalto presente nas grandes cidades se torna um sério problema para os moradores e também para o meio ambiente. Com tanto terreno impermeável, a água das chuvas não consegue penetrar no solo, abastecer os lençóis freáticos e ainda causam enchentes e alagamentos. Uma maneira de resolver esse problema é a utilização do concreto permeável.
Esse produto, já produzido no Brasil, possui pequenas bolsas de ar que, além de reduzir a quantidade total de matéria-prima, permite que a água chegue até o chão. Os benefícios ambientais vão além de abastecer os lençóis freáticos e evitar alagamentos. Esse sistema funciona como um filtro (da mesma forma que a terra durante o processo natural) e retém na superfície as impurezas e substâncias tóxicas presentes na água. Leia mais

SOS Mata Atlântica recebe visita de crianças em julho. Inscreva seu filho!
Uma vez por mês a SOS Mata Atlântica abre as portas de sua sede, em São Paulo, para que os interessados conheçam os projetos mantidos pela ONG e os profissionais responsáveis por cada um deles. Julho é época de férias escolares e para aproveitar este momento a Fundação faz uma edição especial do evento Casa Aberta dedicada para as crianças no dia 16, a partir das 14 horas.
A programação inclui uma versão do Túnel dos Sentidos e uma Casa Sustentável para as crianças aprenderem como economizar os recursos naturais, além de outras atividades educativas e lúdicas. O evento é gratuito e podem participar crianças que tenham de 6 a 12 anos, acompanhadas de um responsável. Animals

Some love them; some empathize with them but do not want them at home; some don’t like but respect them; and some don’t like and abuse them. Every day we see animals abandoned on the streets in deplorable conditions: some because they got old and can’t live up to their owners’ expectations anymore; others because they are sick or “got into mischief” at home and are cruelly abandoned as punishment for this. There are some who simply have nowhere to go when their owners decide to travel or move somewhere else and are then left to their own devices on the streets. We witness such cruelty and, more often than not, do not know what to do to help these defenseless beings.
The WSPA - World Society to Protect Animals - was created in 1981 in order to protect them from all misfortunes. The organization works in partnership with hundreds of NGOs in more than 150 countries, focusing, mainly, on regions where there are few legal tools in favor of the animal protection. Luckily enough for them, and well deserved too, the work has yielded good results. Especially this month, 19 new affiliates have become members of the organization surpassing a thousand NGOs involved in the fight for the animal protection alongside the organization.
Noting that there are already NGOs dedicated to the cause of these animals that suffer so much, and that the number of victims of abandonment and cruelty is nevertheless big, I would like to reach out to you with this article.
Animals, when treated well, become part of the family. They are faithful companions, devoted, obedient, protective, and very friendly. There are stories of many animals that have saved their owners’ lives, protected them from muggers, and other things. However, there are still many cases of neglect and mistreatment.
Which is why I leave a message: if you want to buy or adopt a pet, assess your life before making such a decision. Any animal needs dedication and attention all the time. If you want an animal just to play with, do not forget that one day it will get old just like we all will, and will need support and help from their owners.
If you really love your pet, but no longer can afford to take care of it, donate it to someone who will like and take care of it. Never leave it on the street. This is a way to you’re your contribution to the work of NGOs
And for those who abuse animals: please do not forget that they are helpless and only cowards mistreat and injure another being that can’t defend itself.
