Blog gets a new look: a new layout and many exclusivities
The layout and editorial content of Gisele’s Blog were redesigned. The Übermodel will be present by giving her exclusive testimonials, telling a little bit more about things she believes in and also about the experience of being a mother. Moreover, once every two weeks, the midwife and the nurse who delivered Gisele’s baby will write exclusive articles for the channel. The first topics of discussion are home and water births.
With the change, the channel becomes a way for the Übermodel to share not only environment-related issues and ideas, but also thoughts on life such as birth, maternity, health, spirituality, and a lot more.

O Blog da Gisele passou por uma reformulação de layout e conteúdo editorial. A Übermodel marcará presença com depoimentos inéditos e exclusivos, contando um pouco mais sobre as coisas nas quais acredita e também sobre a experiência de ser mãe. A partir dessas informações, o site indica ao internauta os pontos de coleta mais próximos da sua casa.

New "Low Carbon World website" to Accelerate Transition to Green Economy
The internet is successfully facilitating a transition from traditional so called "brown" business models to new green growth strategies. The Low Carbon World website, a web-based communications platform, was officially launched at the United Nations Environment Programme's annual Governing Council, last week (25 February).
The new website, a joint project between Low Carbon Economy.com and the United Nation's Climate Neutral Network (CN NET) aims to facilitate the move to global low carbon economies, a necessary imperative if we are to combat dangerous and escalating climate change.
The new website will assist knowledge transfer and simplify access to information and tools that can be difficult to trace. It will also list every country's carbon policies, commitments, historical performance, future projections and opportunities, as well as country-specific marketplaces, networks, associations and standards which are relevant to government departments and investment agencies.
"The solutions for the transition to a low carbon economy already exist, and it is a question of removing barriers for rapid and mass uptake. These barriers include technical, financial and informational aspects. I look forward to seeing this project develop further",said Achim Steiner UN Under-Secretary General and Executive Director of UNEP.

Campanha incentiva a conservação da natureza
Devido à capacida
de de estocagem de gás carbônico e liberação de oxigênio, as árvores são muito importantes para o combate ao aquecimento global e também fundamentais para a conservação da biodiversidade e proteção das margens dos rios. Diante desse importante papel, o plantio de árvores tornou-se uma boa opção para as pessoas que querem cooperar, de alguma forma, com o equilíbrio do meio ambiente. No entanto, essa não é a única forma de contribuição. Participar de programas que incentivem o fim do desmatamento e consequentemente protejam as florestas nativas é também um importante apoio.
A Sociedade de Pesquisa em vida Selvagem e Educação Ambiental (SPVS) tem trabalhado em uma importante programa para diminuir o desmatamento. A "Campanha Desmatamento Evitado" tem como objetivo trabalhar pela conservação da natureza, ajudando a proteger os últimos remanescentes de áreas naturais no Brasil, como a Floresta com Araucária. Segundo o coordenador do programa, Denílson Cardoso, estima-se que atualmente existam, no Brasil, somente 0,5% de áreas com Araucárias, diferentemente de oito anos atrás, quando o Brasil tinha 9 % de áreas com a espécie.

Educação ambiental pelo Brasil
A Fundação Gaia - Legado Lutzenberger lança no próximo dia 9 de março, em Porto Alegre/RS, o seu calendário de eventos para o ano de 2010. Na oportunidade, a instituição dará início ao Ciclo de Palestras Ecologia na Cultura. Zoravia Bettiol, artista plástica, designer e arte educadora falará sobre A Ecologia e as artes visuais, fazendo uma reflexão sobre como a situação desesperadora do nosso planeta repercute na criação artística.
A partir desse ano, o projeto de educação ambiental ganha também uma edição em Recife/PE. A ideia é transformar o Ciclo Gaia de Palestras em um Projeto de Extensão: Projeto Gaia – um espaço de discussão multidisciplinar que abordará temas recentes das várias ciências – principalmente àquelas relacionadas às questões ambientais e seus impactos sobre os sistemas ecológicos, a biodiversidade e as populações humanas. Já no dia 9 de março acontece o primeiro encontro. O professor Paulo Paes de Andrade, do Departamento de Genética da Universidade Federal de Pernambuco, falará sobre o Projeto Canoa de Tolda: meio ambiente e cultura

Monstro dos mares em perigo
Há dois anos, um estudo da União Internacional para Conservação da Natureza (UICN) estimou que um terço das 64 espécies de tubarão em todos os oceanos estava ameaçada de extinção. Agora, um novo estudo, feito por pesquisadores da Universidade de Stanford, revela que o Grande Tubarão Branco é uma das espécies mais ameaçadas do mundo, tendo atualmente uma população estimada em apenas 3.500 indivíduos - 90% menos que há 20 anos.
Contra esses animais, pesam a sobrepesca, e também a antipatia da população, como ressalta uma pesquisa feita no Brasil sobre o consumo de sua carne e iguarias. O estudo ressalta a diferença - nenhuma - entre cação e tubarão, usada, segundo os pesquisadores, para justificar o consumo.

Monster of the seas in danger
Two years ago, a study of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) has estimated that one third of 64 open ocean shark species were endangered. Now a new study carried out by researchers at Stanford University shows that the Great White Shark is one of the most endangered species in the world whose current population is estimated to be only 3,500 individuals - 90% less than 20 years ago.
Overfishing and also the antipathy of the population are against these animals as shown by a survey in Brazil on the consumption of their meat and delicacies. The study highlights the difference - none - between cação fish and shark, used to justify the consumption, according to the researchers.

2010: Year of the Tiger

According to the Chinese horoscope, 2010 is the year of the Tiger. The Tiger is the third sign of the Chinese zodiac and represents courage, power, boldness, and passion. But we’ve been acting absolutely differently from these fabulous animals. Today, according to the WWF, there are only about 3,200 tigers living in freedom in nature. Besides, they face an increasing threat of habitat loss, illegal trade, and climate change.
We have acted aggressively against this feline, encouraging its extinction through illegal practices such as bone and meat trafficking, for instance, which fuels the continuous demand from East and Southeast Asia. The hunting of tigers and animals on which they feed, along with the large increase in logging has greatly affected Amur tigers or Siberian tigers. There are more tigers living in captivity in Texas, United States, than those who live in freedom in the rest of the world – besides, there are few regulations to stop those who are still free from ending up on the black market. These are just some of the cowardly actions that have taken place over the years.
"Tigers are charismatic and are a flagship species in biodiversity, culture, and economy of Asia. This International Year of Biodiversity is also a worldwide alert to the urgency of taking care of the diversity of life on our planet, "said Cláudio Maretti Superintendent of conservation at the WWF-Brazil.
Despite the critical situation such organizations as the World Bank will participate in September in a special summit in Russia in order to outline an ambitious agenda to save wild tigers. It is also worth remembering that, according to the Chinese horoscope for 2010, this will be quite an explosive period. It will be a year of disagreements and disasters of all kinds. Nothing will be done on a small scale, either good or bad. People will have to take drastic decisions. So this year, not only in relation to Tigers, but in relation to all life on Earth, it’s necessary to be caution and wise in our choices so that we won’t regret later.
