Better late than never
By Marina Lemos -
It is so good to be accepted in the society in which we live, isn’t it? It's great to have people who trust you, who ask you for advice, who hug you. It's great to have people around.
Now think what not being accepted by others feels like. People rejecting you, turning their faces away from you, going to the other side of the street when they see you, refusing to shake your hand, more often than not, because they are disgusted with you. Cruel, isn’t it? Unfortunately this happens all over the world. Most of the time those who suffer such rejection are those who have nothing. They are poor, hungry and ask for help.
Ignoring the problem instead of facing it head-on and doing something to improve it is very easy. But the only thing these people who need help get is contempt. If they could, they wouldn’t even be there. If they had a chance, they would really try to be better people.
We live in a world where the character is judged by the size of your bank account and not by your beneficial everyday attitudes. And tell me, how long will we put up with this despicable situation? How long will we ignore that there are people who need us? Who need you, you who are reading this article and can do something good for someone? Something big like donate food, give a job, say “Good morning” , which is so simple but so important!
As far as I know, we are human and we do make mistakes. But we also do the right thing and there is a saying that defines our situation very well: making a mistake is human, but making the same mistake twice is stupid. So, let’s stop being stupid, shall we? Let’s do the right thing giving a chance to those who, just like us, want other people to trust them so that they could become somebody.
Living on the edge is not life. Let’s show that we can be human valuing those who need it most. After all, we are all equal and the end is the same for all of us. That is why the UN established the World Day of Social Justice. Read more and think about it: link
